Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message to Iran as tensions escalate in the Middle East after Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran on July 31. Putin’s message was delivered to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, by Sergei Shoigu during his Iran visit. Putin reportedly urged Iran to show restraint and not target civilians when it attacks Israel. Shoigu condemned the killing of Haniyeh as a “very dangerous assassination.”
