U.S. Sanctions Russia's Ally After Military Secrets Leak; Gives Wagner Link 'Excuse' To Justify Move

The U.S. is "running haywire to act" against a Russian ally after an embarrassing email blunder. Washington has now imposed sanctions on top officials from the African nation of Mali. The U.S. has blacklisted the Malian Defence Minister and other officials over the Wagner link. The officials reportedly facilitated Russia's Wagner troops entry into Mali. The Biden administration also linked Mali's support for Wagner to the Ukraine war. The Mali-Wagner tango has been on since 2021, but the U.S. acted only after an email "mistake". On July 16, the U.S. accepted that millions of sensitive military messages were sent to Mali "by mistake."
