Mount Etna is located on the island of Sicily, Italy. It has a complex geologic-tectonic history and consists of a series of nested strato-volcanoes, which are believed to be formed about 14,000-15,000 years ago. Mt Etna has the longest period of documented eruptions in the world. The first eruptions at Etna occurred 500,000 years ago and it is still erupting.
