Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Kyiv hacked Russian emergency alert systems in retaliation for an earlier cyberattack on Ukraine’s air alert app. Zelensky said Ukraine had only responded to Russian actions, after false warnings about nuclear and chemical threats, as well as street fighting, were sent to users across the country on November 1. The cyber confrontation unfolded as Russian strikes on a school being used as an aid centre in Komyshuvakha, in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, reportedly killed at least 26 people on November 2. Zelensky said Russian forces dropped nine additional bombs on a shelter after the initial attack, killing people who had rushed to help. The developments came ahead of planned talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11.
