The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has released previously unseen images of the 9/11 terror attack on the Pentagon.
The FBI has released a batch of previously unseen photographs that depict the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attack on the Pentagon, the iconic five-sided building in Virginia that serves as the headquarters of the US defense department.
The investigation agency posted 27 images on its official website’s The Vault section, which contains files of historic value and public importance.
During the attacks on September 9, 2001, a group of terrorists affiliated to al-Qaeda hijacked four American airliners with the intention of crashing them into targets. Two planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and another was used to target the Pentagon. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks.
The fourth plane, which was being flown towards Washington, crashed into a field in Pennsylvania when passengers attempted to overcome the hijackers.
The eerie images in the FBI’s vault give a glimpse of the immediate aftermath of the attack on the Pentagon, the attempts to douse the flames and the subsequent clean-up.
