Pakistan has to wait past midnight to know general election results

The voting commission in Pakistan will release the results by constituency, as well as projections and votes polled for the candidates on each seat. A trend is expected to emerge around 2am.

Pakistanis will get an idea about who is leading in their general elections early Thursday and the final results will take 24 hours, according to historical precedent.

An exact time for the announcement of the results was not yet known, but a likely indicator is expected emerge after midnight when news of ‘unofficial’ votes or results begin to pour in. The election commission does not announce these but the returning officer at each constituency does report these results to the election commission which gives this information to the media.

The Election Commission of Pakistan will release the results by constituency, as well as projections and votes polled for the candidates on each seat.

By around 4am usually one gets an idea of which parties have taken the lead in the national as well as provincial assemblies.

In the past by 8 am or so, one can make out who has won. This process continues till noon or so when all the results are out.

The Elec Commission sends out the official results in a day or so. The election results will also come in live on the official Pakistan election website: www.ecp.gov.pk but the site was down Wednesday evening.

Polling began all over Pakistan at 8am and ended at 6pm. In the past polling stations closed at 5 pm. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N) are thought to be neck and neck in the elections.
