On Tuesday night, Iran and the US traded fire, claiming their attacks targeted ships trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz and US and Iranian military sites in the region.

Shortly afterwards, a drone hit Kuwait’s airport, killing an Indian national and causing extensive damage.

Kuwait said Iran was responsible for the attack, a claim Iran denied.

Over recent hours, Iran and the US have again traded fire, with Iran again saying it attacked “enemy bases in the region” while the US said its forces shot down four Iranian drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz and struck “Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites” on Qeshm Island and Goruk on Iran’s southern coast.

The US later said that seven Iranian missiles were fired at Kuwait and Bahrain, but none had reached their intended targets.

CENTCOM said that Iran fired seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain just hours after the US military shot down Iranian attack drones that were launched towards the Strait of Hormuz and also struck Iranian radar sites.

“Initial assessments indicate six of the missiles launched by Iran were intercepted and a seventh did not reach its intended target,” CENTCOM said.

Explosions were heard near Kuwait airport and in Bahrain, AFP reported.

The US military has said that Iran launched 7 missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain, AFP reported.

Israeli settlers have reportedly attacked the Palestinian village of Atuf in the north of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing a local official, reported that seven Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces providing support to the settlers.

Wafa said the whereabouts of the detainees remain unknown.

US CENTCOM has said in a statement that currently there are no reports of harm to US personnel, and added that Iranian claims of damaging the US 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain were “false”.

Iran’s IRGC has said that it attacked “enemy bases in the region”, hitting them with “aerospace missiles”, in a statement carried by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

The IRGC said the attacks were in response to US army aggression against the Iranian city of Sirik and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Al Jazeera Arabic reported that siren alarms sounded five times, coinciding with the sounds of missile and drone interceptions over Kuwait.

The alarms have ended now, and the situation is currently calm, the report added.

The UN food agency said millions of people are being pushed into acute hunger by the Iran war, as it warned would happen if the conflict escalated and oil prices remained high.

The World Food Program said an analysis in three vulnerable countries found that an additional 2.5 million people in Somalia, 2.3 million in Afghanistan and 1.3 million in Sri Lanka are struggling to meet their basic food needs.

In March, WFP predicted that 45 million people could be pushed into food insecurity by the end of June. That would be on top of the 318 million people worldwide who are already food-insecure.

"We remain by that prognosis," WFP's acting Executive Director Carl Skau told UN reporters. "That's mainly because the correlation between the prices of energy and food is so tight in many places, and also that in the poorest countries, people are already spending all their money on food, and hence when food prices rise, they eat less."

WFP said in its report, circulated late Thursday, that its findings indicate the Mideast crisis is generating "significant spillovers," particularly on the prices of food and fuel, and disrupting trade. Especially in already vulnerable countries, the Rome-based UN agency said, these factors interact and quickly impact food security and livelihoods.

"These impacts are expected to intensify in the coming months, even if the crisis in the Middle East de-escalates," WFP said.

Skau cited other global hotspots with food insecurity, including Sudan, Gaza, southern Lebanon, Yemen and Haiti.

WFP has had to limit aid to millions of needy people because of funding cuts, and Skau urged donors to step up, especially for Somalia and Afghanistan, "because the human consequences of not doing more will be massive."

Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that several explosions were heard in the coastal city of Sirik in southern Iran on Friday.

Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior has said that alarm sirens have been activated.

“Citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place,” the ministry said in a post on X.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz. They said that the drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.

It added that US forces later struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to prevent further attacks. CENTCOM said American forces remain vigilant and are positioned to respond to what it described as unjustified Iranian aggression in self-defence.
