The official Xinhua News Agency quotes county officials as saying the leak occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the Xundian Phosphorus and Power Company in Yunnan province.

It says 71 workers were sent to the hospital for treatment within the hour and that no deaths have been reported.

Xinhua said in its report late on Wednesday that the leak had been contained but that the cause was still under investigation.
