The altercation on the Aug. 29 China Southern flight has sparked outrage, and Tuesday's announcement underscores widespread anger over haughty and sometimes violent behavior by officials as well as the power of Chinese websites to stir public opinion.
The flight attendant posted photos on her Weibo microblog showing scratches and a tear in her clothing she says were inflicted during the scuffle. Media accounts say the officer and his wife smelled heavily of alcohol but other details are unclear.
Official media say Fang Daguo was suspended as a district military political commissar in the southern city of Guangzhou pending an investigation.
