The militants broke into the house of Zakia Zaki in Jabal Saraj district on Tuesday night and killed her, provincial police chief Mohammad Salim Ahsas said.
Meanwhile, Rahimullah Samandar, director of the Afghanistan Independent Journalists Association, termed the incident as an act to undermine the freedom of press and called on the government to ensure journalists' security.
In this relatively conservative country, woman journalists are seen as renegades to traditional culture.
Last week another Afghan woman journalist was killed in her house in Kabul.
