A 111-year-old British woman, said to be the oldest person in the country, has claimed that a drop of honey daily is the secret to her long life.

According to Eunice Bowman, who has never smoked or drank, and has seen six monarchs on the throne and 22 prime ministers since she was born in 1898, it's the honey which keeps her going at 111, the 'Daily Express' reported.

Eunice, from Newcastle upon Tyne, was quoted by the British tabloid as saying, "I've had a simple life but I've had some great memories. It's the honey that keeps me going."

She has six children, 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Her grandson John Berry, 45, from Gateshead, said: "She always has a smile on her face."
