The troops were attacked with an IED in Akakhel area of Khyber Agency bordering Afghanistan, security sources said.

Further details of the incident were not immediately available.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Several banned organisations, including the Taliban, are active in Khyber Agency and the army recently carried out an operation in the region to flush out militants who had captured strategic heights.
