India assures safety of Lankan institutes in TN

India today assured safety and welfare of Sri Lankan institutions in Tamil Nadu, after Colombo expressed concern over the attack on a Buddhist centre in Chennai, which left four SL nationals injured.

India on Tuesday assured safety and welfare of Sri Lankan institutions in Tamil Nadu after Colombo expressed concern over the attack on a Buddhist centre in Chennai, which left four SL nationals injured.

Sri Lanka's External Affairs Ministry in a statement said, "The (Indian) High Commission assured the ministry that necessary action would be taken to ensure the safety and welfare of the Maha Bodhi Centre and other Sri Lankan institutions and establishments in the State of Tamil Nadu."

The Indian High Commission in Colombo also said, a full scale investigation would be carried out regarding the incident and two suspects have already been taken in to custody, according to the statement.

A group of men vandalised the Mahabodhi Society in Chennai on Monday night, injuring four persons.
