Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Wednesday that Israel does not want war but peace with Syria and is acting on various diplomatic channels in order to deliver this message to Damascus.
During the security cabinet meeting, Olmert also stressed that Israel must avoid miscalculations that are liable to lead to security deterioration, a statement released by Olmert's media adviser said.
The Security Cabinet discussed the situation on the northern border. Most of the meetings were devoted to security and diplomatic briefings on developments in both Syria and Lebanon.
The prime minister imposed a blackout on any further details regarding the meeting.
In recent weeks it has been reported that the Olmert government was looking into different options for negotiations with Syria.
