During the security cabinet meeting, Olmert also stressed that Israel must avoid miscalculations that are liable to lead to security deterioration, a statement released by Olmert's media adviser said.

The Security Cabinet discussed the situation on the northern border. Most of the meetings were devoted to security and diplomatic briefings on developments in both Syria and Lebanon.

The prime minister imposed a blackout on any further details regarding the meeting.

In recent weeks it has been reported that the Olmert government was looking into different options for negotiations with Syria.
