Kuwait announces Sheikh Saad as new ruler

Kuwait has announced appointment of Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah as the new Emir of the country.

Kuwait has announced the appointment of Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as the new Emir of the country to succeed Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died on Sunday after a long illness.

The Kuwait cabinet named Sheikh Saad as the new Emir of the country and "expressed wishes that his leadership would be crowned with success for serving Kuwait, Arab and Islamic nations", said state-run Kuwait news agency.

The cabinet, in a statement read out by Information Minister Anas Al-Rushaid, expressed condolences to the Arab and Islamic nations on the demise of the Emir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away at dawn. He was 79.

Sheikh Jaber was laid to rest at Sulaibikhat Cemetery.
