Lord Paul welcomes Kamlesh Sharma's selection

The leading NRI industrialist says Sharma's selection will be beneficial for the 53-member grouping.

Leading NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul on Saturday said India's nominee Kamlesh Sharma's selection as the new Secretary General of Commonwealth will be beneficial for the 53-member grouping.

"I am delighted that it was done by consensus and that is what makes Commonwealth useful," Paul, also British Ambassador for Overseas Business, said.

"I am sure, Sharma, a senior diplomat, will do a great job and do good for the Commonwealth," he said. Sixty-six-year-old Kamlesh Sharma has been the High Commissioner of India to the UK since 2004. He succeeds Don McKinnon of New Zealand whose second four-year term ends in March next.
