The ministry in a statement announced the death of a protester "due to his wounds" and said an inquiry was being held into whether police had resorted to the "unjustified use of arms" in dispersing the protest on Monday in Diya village.

Witnesses said the protester was wounded on Monday evening during clashes between police and demonstrators.
