Maoists beat up scribe for broadcasting news

Irked over a news report, a senior Maoist cadre assaulted a Nepalese journalist in the country's Tanahu district.

Bharat Pandey, Company Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Gulmi district chapter and news chief of Radio Resunga, was beaten up by the acting district president of Maoist affiliated All Nepal National Revolutionary Free Students Union (ANNRFSU).

ANNRFSU president Yadu Gyawali had thrashed Pandey on September 17 in Tamghsh village of Tanahu district for broadcasting a news report last week, according to FNJ sources.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists has issued a statement deploring the act and urged authorities to take immediate action against the guilty.
