Nepal: 6 Indians killed dead, 5 hurt in accident

The accident occurred when the jeep they were travelling from the tourist town of Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into the Marsyangdi River at Bandipur on the Prithvi Highway.

Six Indian tourists from Kolkata were killed and five others injured in an accident in Nepal on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when the jeep they were travelling from the tourist town of Pokhara to Kathmandu fell into the Marsyangdi River at Bandipur on the Prithvi Highway, 140 km west of Kathmandu.

According to the police, the accident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control after it skidded on the highway and fell nearly 60 metres down into the river.

Five of the passengers died on the spot while one succumbed on the way to a nearby hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Vinay Kumar Tripathi (58), Kalawati Tripathi (56), Neelam Tripathi (37), Poonam Tripathi (33), Neha Tripathi (20) and Hemant Tripathi (13).

The five injured passengers have been taken to Kathmandu for treatment. Condition of one of them is said to be serious.

In another accident, 11 people were killed and 20 others went missing when the bus in which they were travelling fell into Sarada River in Salyan district on Tuesday morning.
