Nepal parliament logjam ends with 5-point deal

The long obstruction of parliamentary proceedings in Nepal ended on Wednesday with the ruling coalition striking a 5-point deal with the opposition Maoists.

The long obstruction of parliamentary proceedings in Nepal ended on Wednesday with the ruling coalition striking a 5-point deal with the opposition Maoists.

The ruling Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) signed the deal with Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) to form a high level political committee.

The committee, which will try to address differences on contentious issues of the proposed new constitution, will be headed by UCPN (M) chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda for the first two months.

The committee will comprise of three members each from the three major parties and include three more members from Madheshi parties. There will be another three members from smaller parties.
