Nepal transgenders launch hunger strike for rights

Disillusioned at not getting equal rights more than three years after a Supreme Court ruling, Nepal's transgender community launched a hunger strike today at Singha Durbar, the seat of Nepal government.

Disillusioned at not getting equal rights more than three years after a Supreme Court ruling, Nepal's transgender community launched a hunger strike on Tuesday at Singha Durbar, the seat of Nepal government.

Led by gay lawmaker Sunil Babu Pant, the protestors accused the government of soft-pedaling and demanded citizenship IDs as per their gender identity so that they can lead lives like other citizens.
