Tombush works as a principal at the Mobil Pegasus School in Eket, where the US oil firm's operations are based.

Rugbere said he had no other information about the kidnapping, which occurred Wednesday morning in the oil-rich and restive Niger Delta.

Kidnappings for ransom have become common in the region, even as militant attacks against oil companies have dropped in recent months.
