While there is no confirmation from any official source, the TTP claimed that Mehsud had survived the attack. Earlier, some officials had speculated that Mehsud had been killed.

The assault took place in Shaktoi, located in the Sararogha sub-district of South Waziristan. Azam Tariq, the spokesman for TTP told local media that Hakimullah Mehsud was present in the vicinity of Shaktoi, but he had left the area already when the drone attack took place. “He is alive and completely safe.”
