Quake in Tajikistan leaves 20,000 homeless

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, rendering 20,000 people homeless, though there were no reports of casualties.
The quake took place yesterday and affected Rokh and Gishkoh hamlets in the Tajik Badakhshan's Vanch district.
"Several dozens houses inhabited by some 20,000 people have been completely or partially destroyed," a local administration spokesman was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
Rock falls and mudslides caused by the quake blocked a road linking the Vanch district with the province's administrative centre of Khorog, he said.
According to reports, the nearby high-altitude Lake Sarez, created by the devastating quake in 1911 was not affected.
