Security restored in Afghan capital: President Karzai

Security had been restored to Kabul after a militant siege that lasted more than three hours and left five people dead, Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai said on Monday.

Security had been restored to Kabul after a militant siege that lasted more than three hours and left five people dead, Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai said on Monday.

"The enemies of the Afghan people conducted a series of attacks today, causing fear and terror among the population," he said in a statement.

"The president condemns these terrorist attacks, and has instructed the security entities to intensify security in the city and take action to arrest those responsible for these brutal and unpatriotic attacks.

"The president once again assures citizens that the government is responsible for safeguarding their lives and assets, and will not hesitate to take action in this regard."
