The flu virus contributed to her death, but it is not yet known to what extent, Ontario public health official Arlene King told a press conference on Monday, adding that the case was being investigated.
The girl, who was not hospitalized, died on June 15. Laboratory tests later confirmed the presence of the virus.
More than 5,700 people in Canada have been infected with the virus, coast to coast, according to the latest government figures. Most suffered only mild symptoms, but 350 have been hospitalized.
