Spain's leader to meet with Obama

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's office says he will meet with President Barack Obama next month at the White House.

The office said in a statement Friday that the Oct. 13 meeting is being organized at Obama's invitation.

The two leaders conferred in April at an European Union-US summit in Prague, but this will be the first time one receives the other in a formal visit.

Spain has been eager to establish strong ties with Obama, after Zapatero angered then-President George W George Bush by withdrawing Spanish peacekeepers from Iraq in 2004.
