Spanish police have arrested 74 people suspected of possessing and distributing child pornography photographs and videos on the Internet.

A police statement issued Thursday says the arrests were made over the past two weeks in 30 provinces, most in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid.

A further 61 persons are under investigation. One of the people arrested is believed to have produced some of the material and had pornographic images of his 13-year-old niece and of a neighbor's 2-year-old boy on his camera.

Police seized 320 hard drives containing millions of files, many with extremely disturbing and violent material. Spanish authorities say they have arrested more than 1,200 people in connection with Internet child pornography over the past five years.
