All shops, business establishments, schools, colleges and offices remained closed due to strike, official sources said in Srinagar.

Most of the public transport on inter-district and intra-city routes remained suspended but some private vehicles were seen plying on the roads, the sources said, adding no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the valley so far.

The coordination committee, an amalgamation of separatist outfits including both Hurriyat Conference and JKLF, called for a strike to remind the United Nations of the right to self determination promised to people of the state through various resolution passed by the global body.

People should send letters and mails to the UN General Secretary Ban ki-moon on this day and hold peaceful protests after Friday prayer, the committee said.
