"It's a great day for the entire royal family and it is also a great day for Sweden," said Reinfeldt in a government statement.

He added that with the birth of a new princess, the Kingdom of Sweden will enter a new era of queens.

This is the first child of Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling since they got married in June 2010 in a grand wedding ceremony in Stockholm.
