According to the police, the two dacoits, whose names have not been disclosed, were robbing one Abdul Karim off his mobile phone and cash yesterday when he resisted and attracted a big crowd in the populated Khada market area.

Police officials said the mob first badly manhandled the two robbers and then burnt them alive. "The two later died at a hospital," an official said.

The police conducted raids in the Khada market and adjoining areas, predominantly the stronghold of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, to arrest people involved in the gruesome incident.

Over the last one year, there have been several incidents where people have captured suspected robbers and mobile snatchers and thrashed them badly before police could rescue them or in some cases even burnt them alive to vent their anger.
