The United States is "actively" hunting Anwar al-Awlaqi, the White House said on Sunday, after the radical Yemeni cleric urged all Muslims serving in the US military to kill their comrades.
A video posted on the Internet earlier on Sunday showed Awlaqi urging Muslims to follow the example of Major Nidal Hassan, a US army psychiatrist accused of fatally gunning down 13 colleagues at Fort Hood, Texas in November.
Asked if the US was on the hunt for Awlaqi, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said: "We are actively trying to find him and many others throughout the world that seek to do our country and to do our interests great harm."
"He has an agenda just like Al-Qaeda to strike targets in Yemen, throughout the world including here in the United States," Gibbs added, during the interview with CBS's "Face the Nation" program.
