Chinese President Xi Jinping has postponed his visit to Pakistan, which was part of his South Asian tour, citing security concerns, officials of the Pakistan Foreign Office confirmed on Thursday.

HT had reported on September 2 that Chinese president may cancel his visit.

Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told parliament earlier this week that the visit could be jeopardised owing to the situation in Islamabad. The Chinese president’s visit was being keenly awaited by both the Sharif government as well as the army high command as a number of power, infrastructure and defence deals are expected to be signed. China is one of Pakistan’s largest foreign investors with stakes in infrastructure, defense, mining, power and water projects.
