Even though Vishal Bhardwaj is one of the top directors in Bollywood today, he is yet to work with any of the three Khans — Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh. Ask him the reason for the same, and he says, “Actually, they have never worked with me. However, they are very close to me (smiles).” He adds that out of the three stars, he shares the “best equation” with Shah Rukh, possibly because he, too, like Vishal, “comes from north India”.
Interestingly, the director reveals that he really wants to work with SRK. “In the past, I have had many fights with Shah Rukh; once, in fact, we had a big fight. But later, we became very good friends. We are both looking forward to, or at least I am really looking forward to, working with him. However, it’s very difficult to catch hold of him, and I don’t have the patience to pursue anyone,” he says, also pointing out that he was born in the same year (1965) as the three Khans.
Vishal admits that if he has to make a film with Shah Rukh, he would have to write a script only meant for the actor. “I have a subject, and both of us are interested in working on it together. But pursuing him is a long process. Whenever we meet, we are like, ‘Now let’s start our film.’ But that never happens,” he says, laughing.
As for Salman, Vishal says that he has met the actor only a couple of times. “I have not interacted with him too much. We talked about doing a film together only once,” says the film-maker.
On the other hand, Vishal says that with Aamir, things had reached a level where “the film even went into the prep stage”. But due to certain reasons, it didn’t take off. “If I have to approach him now, I have to go to him with a script that he can’t refuse. And for that, I have to look for such a script,” he says.
