The Capital witnessed light pre-monsoon showers on Wednesday bringing respite from the searing temperatures. The weather is expected to stay pleasant over the week with temperatures remaining below 40ºC mark, as predicted earlier.

The respite, however, may be short lived as the mercury is expected to climb over 40ºC again next week. The mercury docked at 26.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning, before rising to 34.6 degrees by noon.

However, with several areas witnessing rain showers in the national capital, and winds blowing at 12kmph, the weather took a pleasant turn. The India Meteorological Department expects the rainfall to increase over the day with possibility of thundershowers towards the evening. The regional weather forecast office took to Twitter to announce that light to moderate rains were expected across Delhi early afternoon on Wednesday.

The weathermen at the IMD have also forecast the possibility of rain, thunderstorm or dust storm on Thursday. However, with a dry spell expected thereafter, temperature will climb over 40ºC. By Monday, the minimum temperature at night will rise to around 30ºC and the maximum will be around 42ºC.

Next week, however, Delhi could once again see the mercury breaching the 40-degree mark. (Raj K Raj / HT Photo)
