Bihar daily wager killed for Rs 50!
Labourer pays with his life for not returning Rs 50 he owed to a fellow daily wager, who attacked him with a shovel in Bihar’s Araria district.
ARARIA: Two fellow daily wagers fought over Rs 50, resulting in the death of one labourer after being hit with a shovel in Bihar’s Araria district on Tuesday.
Police said deceased Md Naushad, 35, and accused Md Intezaar, 30, both residents of Mohania village at Palasi block of Araria district, around 325 kms north-east of Patna, were related to each other.
Naushad reportedly owed Intezaar Rs 50 for the past couple of days. On Tuesday morning, Intezaar walked up to Naushad’s house and demanded his dues. Naushad said he did not have the money, but would return it to him in the evening.
Sensing that Naushad was delaying, a verbal duel followed between the two. In a fit of rage, Intezaar took his shovel and hit Naushad on the back of his skull. As the latter slumped on the ground, he was taken to the Palasi primary health centre, where he died within hours during the course of treatment.
Confirming the incident, Araria superintendent of police Sudheer Kumar Porika told HT, “The two relatives had quarrelled over payment of Rs 50. In the heat of the moment, the accused hit the victim on his head with his shovel, leading to fatal injury. The accused has been arrested and the body sent for post-mortem examination.”
Both Naushad and Intezaar are engaged in loading and unloading of sand and stone chips on trucks and tractors — an unskilled job, which fetches them Rs 200-400 per day.
