Kashmir: Army jawan killed in accidental firing in Ganderbal

A soldier was killed due to accidental firing in Ganderbal district on Thursday morning.

A soldier was killed due to accidental firing in Ganderbal district on Thursday morning.

Police said that Naik B Venkata Krishnaiah was killed as a weapon got misfired at Safapora in Ganderbal district in the wee hours.

“Investigations are on and prima facie it appears to be a case of accidental firing,” superintendent of police, Ganderbal, Imtiaz Ismail Parray, told HT.

Police said the soldiers were on a routine duty in the Safapora area when Krishnaiah’s gun got misfired. He got shot and died.

The army has not commented on the incident.
