The Jaipur Police on Saturday said they have seized 77 videos of an alleged paedophile tutor molesting children and have identified 11 of the victims.

Angry locals staged a protest in Ramganj police station of Jaipur’s old city area, demanding death penalty for the 27-year-old accused, Rameez, who used to work as a teacher and who was arrested two days ago.

The police are trying to track and persuade their parents of the children identified in the videos to lodge separate FIRs, said deputy commissioner of police (north) Anshuman Bhomia.

“We have also detained a few people from the school where Rameez used to work. It has come to our knowledge that in spite of children giving the school administration video proof of his wrongdoings, they only fired him but didn’t intimate the police,” said Bhomia.

Police said the students had gone on a picnic in the third week of January. There, the students managed to remove the memory card of Rameez’s mobile phone and gave it to the school administration, which didn’t approach the police but sacked him.

Rameez allegedly committed the crimes over a period of a few years while he was hired as a private tutor for the children.

According to the police, the accused used to force children to film the videos of him molesting other kids.

“After molesting a child, Rameez would blackmail him and then make the kid film the act of him sexually abusing other children. During interrogation Rameez told us that he molested children during 2011-2015 but stopped afterwards. We are investigating the claims,” said Ashok Chauhan, station house officer, Ramganj police station.

The police said that videos from 2011-2012 have been analysed so far from which the 11 children have been identified.

For the larger part of Saturday, tension prevailed near the police station with public anger spilling on to the streets. A large number of people from the area gathered outside the police station and demanded death sentence for the accused.

“The video clips that we have recovered have been sent for forensic tests. It is also under investigation that whether Rameez had any other accomplice in his crime,” said Bhomia.

The police said they are also probing why the accused filmed so many videos and have not ruled out his involvement in pornographic video business.

“We are investigating all such angles of the case and have got custody of the accused till Monday,” said Bhomia.

Manan Chaturvedi, chairperson, Rajasthan Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked for speedy action in the case.

“We will take action against the school if they are found guilty. It is also a matter of grave concern as to why the molestation continued for the last six years but no one knew about it. If lack of communication is the reason behind this then we will take necessary steps to rectify this,” said Chaturvedi.

Chaturvedi said that there is a need to make private tutors to first procure licence and character certificates before they are allowed to teach children.

So far, two FIRs have been filed in the case, one of which is by the family of a 14-year-old boy and the other by the family of a 20-year-old who was molested six years ago by Rameez.

The accused used to teach English in the school before he was fired on January 23.
