As a TV actor he won applause for his roles. He also made people laugh through his scripts for a popular comedy show. Now the anti-climax: He is a killer who was on the run for the past six years.
The UP Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested Ramabhishek Singh alias Kera Singh, 26, from his Mumbai residence where he was living with a changed identity -- as Rohit Singh -- after escaping from Azamgarh where he was involved in a sensational shootout in October 2009. Two people had died in the shootout. He also carried a reward of Rs 30,000 on his head.
Kera acted in a comedy show and also did scriptwriting for the popular Kapil Sharma laughter show on contractual basis.
“He (Kera) is key accused in the sensational shootout at former pradhan Ghure Singh’s house in Azamgarh’s Mau Parashan village that resulted in death of two people and injuries to three others. Prohibited firearm (carbine) was used in the shootout. Carbines are generally used by police and other security forces,” said Arvind Chaturvedi, additional superintendent of police (ASP), STF.
Chaturvedi said Kera’s father Anil Singh alias Balianjar Singh and uncle Manoj Singh alias Patru Singh were also accused in the case. “Kera was just 19 at the time of the crime,” he said.
Kera was arrested from Mumbai’s Andheri West area and was to be brought to Azamgarh on transit remand. The STF team recovered a voter identity and PAN card in Rohit Singh’s name from Kera.
The ASP said Kera’s father and uncle were arrested earlier but he continued to be on the run and finally shifted to Mumbai in 2010.
Kera started trying his luck in Bollywood and television industry in Mumbai and even succeeded in getting acting and script writing work in some television shows.
“He acted in the Great Indian Family Drama comedy show on Sab TV. Thereafter, he did small roles in many other television serials and gave auditions for some Bollywood movies. Recently, he was associated to K9 Productions and was writing scripts for Kapil Sharma’s show,” Chaturvedi said.
Kera changed his lifestyle completely after reaching Mumbai and was doing well in the entertainment industry while his father and other family members had shifted base to Allahabad after getting bail in the case.
Kera even married a woman working abroad in a multi-national firm. Earlier, Kera’s uncle Patru Singh, who was on the run for around two years and carried reward of Rs 50,000, was arrested by the STF.
