Udta Punjab quick take: The film is worth all its hype

Director Abhishek Chaubey’s controversial Udta Punjab, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead, is a brave, intriguing look at the drug-addled Punjab.

No other film has created a buzz as big as Udta Punjab in recent past. And, now when it is finally in theatres, all eyes are on its content and whether it glorifies drug consumption or not.

Director Abhishek Chaubey’s film focuses on the issue of drug trafficking in Punjab, and how it’s corrupting the youth. Shahid Kapoor plays a fading rockstar in the film whose career is almost finished due to substance abuse. Alia Bhatt is playing a Bihari migrant in Punjab who wants to make it big in the world of sports. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh are also important players in Udta Punjab.

The film uses its landscapes well and the story slowly unfolds into an intriguing tale of deceit. The leads have delivered power-packed performances.
