Circle presidents of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Sultanpur Lodhi constituency on Tuesday threatened to boycott the party if Sajjan Singh Cheema, who has filed his nomination from the constituency, was given ticket.
Circle presidents Jang Bahadur Singh, Kulwant Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Angrez Singh, Nachattar Singh, levelled allegations against Cheema saying he was a controversial police officer and was not perfect for a party that was working to end corruption from the society.
They have also written a letter to party convener Arvind Kejriwal with an affidavit signed by 19 office- bearers of the party demanding stern action against Cheema.
The affidavit mentioned that in 1998, Cheema, then DSP of Malot, had allegedly tortured and lodged a false FIR against them when they were protesting for the release one polling agent to whom Cheema had illegally detained.
The affidavit reads, “We produced our proof in the sessions court following which the court cancelled the FIR.”
The presidents alleged that Cheema, who is a retired SP from Punjab police, has already been facing allegations of taking bribe from police officials for promotion to higher posts due to his proximity with the chief minister and the deputy chief minister.
They alleged that Singh had properties worth crores in Punjab and the US in the names of his children and brothers.
The presidents said that many corrupt people had entered the party, which should be looked into.
WHERE IS PROOF, ASKS CHEEMA
Sajjan Singh Cheema refuted every allegation levelled against him. He said, “How can they say that I am having property worth crores, do they have any proof ? They cannot malign my image by levelling such allegations.”
He added, “Just because they are afraid that I will get ticket which they wanted, they are plotting a conspiracy against me.”
“They were the ones who welcomed me with open hands when I joined the party and now they are levelling allegations because they cannot see me getting the party ticket. But they hold no proof against me.” he added.
