The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday accused Kanwar Sandhu, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Kharar and chairman of party’s Punjab Dialogue panel, of having “misused” his position as a newspaper editor for “personal gains”.
“Are you (Sandhu) not honour-bound to explain why you misused your position as a newspaper editor in Chandigarh for personal gains?” SAD leader and Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said in a statement on Wednesday, a day after the Congress made similar allegations.
Claiming Sandhu’s son gained entry into a medical college against an NRI seat, when Sandhu, an Indian citizen, was serving as an editor, Chandumajra said: “Sandhu also tried to browbeat the management of the medical college into stalling the fee payment. He got his son selected as a PCMS doctor but on sensing that the appointment could run into rough waters made him resign from the service after one year.”

The SAD also asked Sandhu to come clean on funds allegedly collected by his wife, who ran an NGO when he was an editor. “He misused his position to enrich himself and his family,” alleged the Akali leader, adding that the “false mask” of morality of the AAP has finally come off.
