National Award-winning filmmaker Aparna Sen long-standing dream has finally been realised. The director had long wanted to adapt William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on the big screen. On Wednesday evening, the trailer of her new Bengali film, Arshinagar, based on Romeo and Juliet , was launched on the social networking site.
The musical stars actor Dev and Ritika in titular roles. Legendary Bollywood actor Waheeda Rahman plays Dadijaan in the film. Other actors include Jisshu Sengupta, Kaushik Sen, Roopa Ganguly, Jaya Seal Ghosh and others.
Arshinagar is a fictional town, which is terrorised by two rival gangs -- Khans and the Mitras. The trailer shows Dev (Ronojoy, Biswanath Mitra’s son) sporting a pony. He loves music and has a garage band too. He falls in love with Sabir Khan’s daughter Zulekha or Julie (Ritika). Jisshu Sengupta looks devilish in an all black ensemble and kohled eyes. He plays Julie’s brother.
