She was one of the strongest contenders for winning Bigg Boss 9 but quit the ongoing controversial reality show mid-way when an offer of RTs 15 lakh came her way in the form of a task. Kishwar Merchant, who has been a popular face on small screen for past 18 years, credits the show’s host Salman Khan for making her a better person. “His guidance helped me control my temper,” she said.
Kishwar, who has been part of shows like Hip Hip Hurray and more recently, Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani and Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan, confesses that after a “rollercoaster ride” on the tube for almost two decades, her first stint on a reality TV show has projected her in a negative light. “It’s been quite an emotional ride. I was labelled a bully and a goon. I didn’t know how to handle a reality show. When Salman sir pointed these things out, I took his advice to heart and tried to be more patient. He made me a better human being,” said the actor.
Kishwar was on the show with Suyyash Rai, her boyfriend of five years. The couple was supposed to tie the knot next month. Ask her about her wedding plans, and she says, “Nothing is locked yet. First of all, the two of us will celebrate our fifth anniversary. I think God wanted me to be with Suyyash on this day. We plan to take a vacation with Rochelle (Rao), Keith (Sequeira) and Prince (Narula), and go to Chandigarh, Manali, Chhel, etc. Later, we will go to Dubai to celebrate Suyyash’s parents’ anniversary. After that, we will have a chat with our families and plan. February is too early,” she says.
She was one of the most vocal, opinionated and dominating contestants on the show. Kishwar agreed, saying that she is like that in real life too. “I can’t be fake, and pretend to be a bechari (damsel in distress). I have done things that I never would do in life. I didn’t think that when a girl kicks me, I wouldn’t slap her back. It was a big deal for me to not retaliate,” she said.
The actor also said that she was tricked into being evicted from Bigg Boss 9 . “If I was voted out, it would have been justified. But exiting due to a task was unfair and disappointing. I was a strong contender, and this was not done,” she added.
