This Saturday, at the Ritambara Grounds, TV actors will take on members of Federation of Western India Cine Employees in the Gold Charity Soccer Match. The proceeds will be donated to a fund set up to support out-of-work junior artistes.
“We formed the Gold Charity last year and played a cricket match,” says organiser Vikaas Kalantri. “There are many junior artistes and technicians who’ve been injured on TV show sets and need money. So we’re back in action with football.”
The players include actors Aashish Sharma, Arjun Bijlani, Jay Soni and Karan Mehra. Also, Karan Wahi, Kushal Punjabi, Manav Gohil, Vivian D’Sena and Vikaas himself. Wouldn’t a Bollywood actor bring more attention to the cause?
“This is an initiative by TV actors for TV actors, none of whom are charging a fee,” says Vikaas. “We have nothing against film stars but their presence can shift the focus which is why we haven’t approached them.”
