The hot weather nowadays might not make you want to go out and explore the city, but if you are an ardent theatre lover, then summer is a good time for you, as many theatre festivals are happening all across Delhi during the season. One such event, the summer theatre festival organised by the National School of Drama (NSD), will be kicking off this week.
While the festival will be showcasing a number of famous plays by the NSD Repertory, it will also feature a completely new theatrical performance. “This time, there is a new theatrical performance called Old Town, which is going to open on the 25th of this month,” says Abdul Kadir Shah, coordinator of NSD Repertory Company.
“It is the story of a 2000-year-old carnival and how it has to be sustained for a set of performers. The show will have all the ingredients of a carnival — rockets, nautanki performance, puppets and more,” says Roysten Abel, director, Old Town.
“Old Town will feature artists from NSD Repertory, who are taking part in other plays in this festival as well,” adds Abel.

“The fact that the plays in this festival are staged in the evening makes people come out and enjoy the various performances. We keep getting requests for a repeat performance,” says Shah.
Some of the plays that will be shown in the festival include Begum Ka Takia, Chekhov ki Duniya, Blood Wedding, Hamara Shahar Us Baras, Jaat Hi Poochho Sadhu Ki, among others.
