The artist believes that rangoli is a form of expression and a process of purification. According to her, it is a symbolic language of colours. It’s not just about lines or aesthetics, but it represents human and cultural activities.
In the ‘Surya’ collection, each painting revolves around the central theme of the sun and its symbols, expressed in various ways. “I start with a very blurry vision of what I would like to show on the canvas. As I paint one stroke, the next one comes to mind. It’s a spontaneous reaction,” says Mate.
