The film in which Julie Andrews had won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1965, has been voted the greatest musical of all time in a movie poll.

The Sound of Music", which starred Julie Andrews and won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1965, has been voted the greatest musical of all time in a movie poll.

The film, in which Andrews' character leaves a convent to become governess to a naval captain and his seven children, got 15 per cent of the vote in the poll conducted by Twentieth Century Fox, reports the sun.co.uk.

Coming in second was "Grease", which was released in 1978 and starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

Others on the list were "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Mary Poppins", "Moulin Rouge", "Phantom of the Opera", "The Wizard of Oz", "Oliver", "West Side Story", and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".
