While you were eating

Finely laid tables, sparkling wine ... and loads of scandals! That’s what’s in store at this play in town.

Picture this. An ultra-decadent French restaurant pops up just for an evening, in a posh Delhi hotel, to which you are invited. While you await a night of great food and entertainment, what you don’t know is that the joke might just be on you.

Welcome to Dinner for Pricks, a musical-satire by Humour Me, written and directed by 25-year-old Dhruv Sachdeva.

“It is a play which involves stereotypical representations poking fun at the elite of the city. Guests make reservations at a fictional restaurant called Le Cigare Volant (The Flying Cigar), where they are greeted by over-friendly waiters, who sometimes break into songs. The guests are aware that it is a show that they are in for, but they will be spectators to the scandal unfolding around them, and for all they know, they might just be drawn in into it,” says Dhruv, who is also a part of the cast.

The line-up of those playing the pricks includes some of the best actors from Delhi’s theatre circuit. “I had worked with them last year for the same play. But this time, though the flavour of the play has been retained, the plot has changed,” says actor Vidushi Mehra.

“The play is more like a bunch of people having conversation. But then, tables intermingle and chaos ensues,” explains actor Farhad Colabavala when asked about the storyline. “I went to the audition for fun, and though I was unsure, they took me on board. The whole experience was a riot,” says entrepreneur and socialite Charu Sachdev, who will be making her stage debut on the opening night.
