One of India's foremost painters, Jatin Das's creations occupy a pride of place in many fora, private and public. So it comes as no surprise that he should find space in this Pocket Art series.
This little book takes a quick look Das' life and career -his childhood in Orissa, early leaning towards art and the move to Bombay, the rekindling of the move to paint after getting an award from Nehru.
For those not acquainted with his art, the write-up is accompanied by a number of sketches and line drawings that help understand his art that much better. The 'line' of the artist, about which much has been written over the years, comes out fairly well even in this small pocket-book size.
Even within the constraints of space, a little more on his sculpture would have made the bookmore complete.
The postcardstooreflect this difference - while his paintings are fairly well represented, there is just one image of a sculpture and another of a work on glass. However the cards nevertheless are gauranteed to delight anyone who has not seen the works in original.
